Hello:
I have a Hanover ancestor who settled in Council Bluffs, Iowa in or near
the year 1867. Two of their children were married by an Mormon minister, the
first one in 1893 and the other one a few years later. Also one Iowa State
Census says they belonged to the Latter Day Saints.
I know the German ministers kept great records. Has anyone had any
experience with the early Mormon Church records? What information would they
record for marriages? Did they record baptisms and burials? I appreciate any
information. Since this does not necessary apply to Hannover research, you
can reply to me personally at: dplowman@newnorth.net.
Have you tried looking up the names on the LDS website? I would think
they would have extracted all possible records from any Mormon church in
this country and placed them on their own website. There may be a difference
with the RLDS in Missouri and elsewhere--that I wouldn't know.
Also for Mormons who are searching ancestors and get information on them they submit a "Temple ready file", which I asume becomes part of the "Mormon family tree." I have briefly watched them do this at the FHC I go to, but since I have no known Mormons in my ancestory, I didn't pay much attention. I am sure someone at one of the FHC's can clue you in instantly. A FHC would no doubt be your best source for a Mormon ancestor.
