I have searched for John Moritz with little success for his birthplace
in Germany. I looked at the census of 1900 and found some information that
you may already have. In that census John Moritz and his wife Amanda are
living at Christy Township in Lawrence County Illinois. In that census John
Moritz is 50 years old, born in Germany, August 1849. He arrived in the U.S.
in 1872. He and his wife Amanda have been married 20 years. He is a farmer.
Amanda was born in the U.S. January 1856. They have 5 children.
In 1880 they live in Wabash County Illinois. A sister--in-law age 19 is
living with them - not sure of her name. John is a farmer age 30 and Amanda
is 24.
I have searched in Germany for the name Moritz. It is a very common name
there, but so far I haven't found where your John Moritz was born. I'll
continue the hunt.
