Minna or Minnie

Hello group members,

I have found a German baptism with child’s christening name of Marie
Christine Meier born in 1859.

I am trying to track her in USA that fit with the aforementioned baptism.

I have found either a Minna (aka Minnie) born in circa 1860 (per her
tombstone and per 2 US Federal Census records) or her younger sister, Mary
born in circa 1863-1869 (per 5 US Federal census records and her tombstone
with birth year- 1869). Note: On the younger sister, Mary’s (born circa
1863-1869) daughter, Minna (Minnie’s) baptism record, Minna’s mother is
listed as Maria Meyer.

Do any of you know, is Minna or Minnie an Americanized version of the German
name of Marie?

I have not found both German baptisms for each child, Minna aka Minnie born
circa 1860 or Mary born circa 1863-1869.

Driving me crazy knowing which one matches to the German baptism of Marie
Christine Meier born in 1859.
