Hello list friends,
I have discovered that my emigrant ancestor served in the military, was injured and possibly received a medal prior to
leaving for America. This is all just family history, no real data to support it, so I would like to try and find any records that may
exist regarding his military service.
Herman Christoph Bottemoeller lived in Brockhagen and was born in 1795. He married in 1815 and had children about every 2 years through 1826. Then the next child was born in 1833, 1835, and the last in 1838. Could his time of service be during the gap in the arrival of children? He would have been 32 then, this seems rather old to be drafted.
Can you direct me where to go to inquire into his records?
Thanks for your help
Barbara
Barbara,
if he was injured in action there should have been a war for fighting. My guess: It could have been the Liberation Wars 1812/1815 which made an end to the time of Napoleon Bonaparte as ruler of France and Europe. It is not unlikely that he married after returning home from military service.
I do not know, however, if there are records of the Brockhagen soldiers. They belonged to the King of Prussia then.
Best regards,
Friedrich
