I know one of my ancestors was in the armee in Parchim. He started the 8th.
october 1890 and he was there for tree years. He was in the cavalry. But
I dont know if there was a college or a militaryacademy.
Friends,
There definately was a cavalry post at Parchim. It is still mentioned
from time to time in the Parchim newspaper as the site is now being
redeveloped. I never heard of a military academy there though.
I do not know what (other?) specific units were there, but from the
limited sample of those people unfortunate enough to be listed in my
index of Mecklenburg Franco-Prussian War Dead (1870-1871), at that time
most Pachimers seem to have been with the 89th Grenadier Regiment.
For those interested in that topic, the index is on-line at:
www.uwm.edu/people/mitch/1870index.html
And the Parchim newspaper is at: www.svz.de/newsmv/lr/pch/index.html
Best Holiday wishes,

Dear Mitch,
Mecklenburg-Schwerin had the following Regiments in the German Army: Infantry
Reg. #89, I & II Battalion, Jager Bat. #14, Dragooner Reg. #17 & 18, Field
Artillery Reg. #60. Mecklenburg-Strelitz: Inf. Reg #89 II Bat. and Field Art.
Reg. #24, 3 Bat. Of these only one was garrisoned at Parchim. It was the
GroBherzoglich Mecklenburgisches Dragoner-Regiment Nr. 18 attached to the IX
Armeekorps formed in 1867. The training center for the IX Armeekorps was located
in Lockstedt and the N.C.O. school on Molln. The 89th. Infantry Grenadier Reg.
from Mecklenburg-Schwerin was garrisoned in Schwerin and the 89th from
Mecklenburg-Strelitz was garrisoned in Neustrelitz. Hope this helps. William

Hi Mitch--I see that you have SCHROEDER in your ancestry. I have traced my
gggrandfather Joseph SCHROEDER to Mecklenburg-Schwerin, but I don't have a town
of origin yet. Joseph was born in 1823.
Are your Schroeders of this same time? Where were they from? I realize this is a
long shot, as SCHROEDER is a common surname.
All the best,
Cindy Lindau
