Good Day,
My name is Allan Hardtke, 57 years old. I started genealogy in 2000 as I wanted to find
my German relatives. Anyway , to keep a long story short:
I am looking for information about:
The family of Michael Hardtke, born 9/1/1802 in or around Marienwerder, which is in Deutch Lonk, Kreis Schwetz, West Prussia. Marienwerder is south of the Gulf of Danz, NWW of Roseuberg., died in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, USA.
I live in Billings, Montana now, but was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. I am the great-great grandson of Michael Hardtke who came to the United States in 1854 from Bremen via Barke "Suwa" (arrived in New York 12/27/1854), lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for two years, then moved to the Kewanee, Wisconsin area. Michael Hardtke and John Ney on my mother's side of the family, bought land on the same day in 2/22/1858 from the Menasha Wisconsin Land Office.
Michael Hardtke married Catherine Ziroth (born 10/15/1817 died 8/201895) and had 7 children. We have unconfirmed information that he was the son of Friedrich Hardtke II (1777-?) whose father was Erdmann Hardtke I (1740-1810). I do not know who is correct. That would be great if you or anyone you know could help us clarify that. If you have some Hardtke family tree information dating back from the 1850's or earlier that you would share with us, which would be great.
There seems to be a number of ways to spell Hardtke, which is the correct spelling?
I look forward to hearing from you, any other Hardtke, or any historian from the Hardtke Family.
Thanks very much!
Allan Hardtke
