Background Information
The majority of the following info came from family bibles and family
knowledge.
I am trying to find additional info on the family of my great great
grandfather Henry A. Meyers(Meiers). Henry (Heinrick) was born in/near
PreuBisch Oldendorf in Apr or Jul1827. He married Clara Kreuger (b. Oct 4,
1830) by the mid 1840s?. Clara was born in Schwettinghaasen. They were
Lutherans. A total of 12 children were born into the family of which 10 are
known. These included Wilhem Henry (b.Feb 1844?), Henry C., Fred C., Frank
G., Arthur, Ernest Christian (b. Dec 26, 1856), Gottlieb Heinrick (b. ay 7,
1859), Clara Luise (b. May 1, 1866), Anna Maria (b. Jun 4, 1868), Frenz
Heinrick (b. Sep 7, 1873).
The family continued to live in Westphalia until 1874 when they migrated to
America. Henry's immigration papers also mentioned him as Colonel Elirhard
Heinrick Meier. In America, the family settled in Page County Iowa near the
town of Coin. Henry died there in 1896. Clara died in 1926.
Desired Information
1. Is there a Lutheran Church in PreuBisch Oldendorf and if so are there any
records showing the birth of Henry A. (maybe as Heinrick Gottlieb Meyers or
Meiers in 1827)? Am particularly interested in names of his parents and who
were sponsors at his baptism.
2. Any birth records of the children mentioned above which are not shown with
birth dates?
3. Is Meyers or Meirers a common name in this area?
4. Is the surname Kreuger common in the area?
5. Is there a town in this region (or maybe back in the 1830-1870s) that is
called
Schwettinghaasen, where the wife of Henry was born? On the maps that I have I
can not find such a town. Maybe it's in another part of Germany.
6. Does anyone know of a website where I could check German military records
in the 1850-1874 era to see if anything on Colonel Elirhard Henrick Meier?
Of the above questions, number 1, 4, and 5 are the most important.
Should also mention I do not speak or read German.
Thanks for any help you may offer.
