Listers, Marlene wrote "I see on your name list you have the name Meyer. I
am looking for Meyer in Mecklenberg. What kind of book is this you are
talking about. My great grandfather, Johan Carl Meyer born October 31,
1838 must have left family there. Where do I look for him?"
Let me try to clear some things up for you. Meyer (Meier, Mejer, Maier) is
a very common name in Germany. Like Smith, Brown or Jones in the USA.
Second, it is MecklenbUrg not Mecklenberg. Burg is a fortress, Berg is a
mountain in german.
The book is a recently released or published list of names in the Parum
church parish, originally compiled in 1921-22. To trace your great
grandfather you absolutely must know the town or village he came from. Try
to search such material as 'Germans to America' which can be gotten at the
Mormon family history centers; as well as the Hamburg Passenger Lists or
the material gathered by the 'Immigrant Ship Transcribers Guild'.
