Hello fellow researchers,
I'd (one again) would like to draw your attention to the following:
My eldest known forefathers are:
Michael Kretschmann (Cath.) & Anna (Luth., widow of Peter Kirstein) oo 1741, Elbing
Witnesses: Casimir Merten(s) & Friederic Getz
One of the issues I am currently dealing with is finding out Anna's maiden name.
I presumed that one of the witnesses maybe her brother.
Via familysearch.org I came across the following line:
Jo(h)annes (Hans) Merten & Agnes Keichel oo 1702, Benern (Cath)
Children:
Casimir(y) Merten * 14 jan 1711 Benern
Anna Merten * 22 mar 1713 Benern
Furthermore I came across the following wedding entry:
Casimir Merten & Christina (widow of Jacob Steegman) oo 1738, Elbing (Cath.)
I am trying to prove that the Casimir and Anna from Benern are the same as the Casimir and Anna from Elbing.
Therefore I'd like to know if anyone of you is familiar with/has additional information in regard to these records.
Finding the wedding entry of Anna and Peter Kirstein will provide definite proof. The question is where to look.
According to the wedding entry of Michael K., Anna is Lutheran. The Anna from Benern was baptised Catholic.
If we're talking about one and the same Anna, then she became Lutheran through a previous marriage, ie the marriage
with Peter Kirstein. In that case the wedding entry I'm looking for is to be found in an EV Churchbook, most likely of Elbing.
So in short I am looking for the wedding entry of PETER KIRSTEIN & ANNA (MERTEN???) oo ELBING (?), somewhere between 1730-1741.
Either in an EV or in a Cath. Church in presumably Elbing.
Thanks in advance for your replies,
