Hi Hans,
I wonder if you also might take a look at the name "Marhenke". I have
had several meanings sent to me and they differ altho they usually agree
it has an agricultural background.
Also my family used to make a sausage from the head of the hog while
butchering and they called it "KNOP" any German background for this
word??
I really enjoy and learn from this site.
I am still interested in contacting any Marhenke families or descendants
of Marhenke---Bob Marhenke

Hello Bob,
maybe only another one. First there is no sense similar to an actual term or word
for me. So we have to see the parts of the word:
"-henke", is a low-german form of a first name from which came "Heinrich",
"Henke" was, respectively remained a pet name for "Heinrich".
Then "Mar-" should define mor exactly which Henke was meant. That can be a lot
and maybe also derived from "Moor", english mor, fen and others. So one
possibility is it came from the "Heinrich out of the mor". But the more
scientific books may come in point of first syllable to other meanings. Knowledge
about "-henke" is out of dtv-Atlas Namenkunde
