Moin List,
Are there marriage indexes for Meckenburg-Schwerin for the
years 1840-1860? Are they filmed by the LDS? How do I look
up the numbers if this is true?
Thanks. Shirley
Shirley,
I think you have to go by town. You need to know the town and approximate
dates... some small towns are attached to larger nearby towns if their own
town did not have a Church.
Go to the LDS catalog www.familysearch.org
click on Family History
click on Family History Catalog
click on place
type in your city
click on the prinable version... get the film numbers for your city and
time... (by parish)
then go the local family history center
order the films... 3.75 each for 6 weeks
when the arrive you can use the Family History Research Center (FHC) to read
them.
To find your nearest FHC go back to the website
click on Family History
click on Family History Center
then enter your zip code and you will get a list of those near you.
Studying the microfilms yourself enables you to pull of many members of your
family, marriages, deaths, births, confirmations... There is a microfilm
copier that you can copy the register of family members for .25 each.
Cheaper than sending for a certificate which is written off the registers
anyway.
Hope it helps.
Carol
Shirley,
If you know the town the individuals resided in you need to look up the Kirchspiel (Parish) that the town was in. Then you can go to the FHC and look up the film numbers for the churchbooks. They will contain the birth, confirmation, marriage and death records (usually up to 1875).
A look up for Church district is on the web site of the Mecklenburg genealogy society ( www.mfpev.de ).
Click on LOCATIONS and that will get you to the search engine.

Shirley,
Franz Schubert compiled some marriage registers for the period 1801-1875. I
think they only cover Mecklenburg-Strelitz. His other Mecklenburg marriage
registers only cover until 1801.
The publisher Verlag Degener has these volumes. They have aweb page and
efficiently ship to the US.
