Marriage customs

Dear list
I have found records of 2 marriages for my great-great grandparents,
FRIDERICH TENBRINK and JOANNA KOESTER on 1 May 1832, one at the Catholic
Church in Praest and one in the Catholic Church in Bienen, about 3km away. I
think that Friderich was born in Praest and Joanna in Androp, which is about
1km from Bienen. Can anyone tell me if it was the custom or is this
something unusual?
Thank you very much, Ted

What probably happened here is that the marriage was
performed in the bride's parish and the couple then either
moved or lived in the other parish. The priest there recorded
the marriage as a copy of the original. You couldn't have
people just living together without proof of marriage in his
parish.
