Marriage Certificate for Hamburg

Hi Everyone-

I'm new to this list; actually I have been on the list for quite some time,
but this is the first time I am sending a posting. I thoroughly enjoy
reading everyone's emails and it seems like there is always someone willing
to help a beginner.

I was wondering if someone could send me in the right direction on how to
obtain a marriage certificate (where & how to send for it, etc.) or possibly
do a look-up for my g-g-grandmother & grandfather's marriage certificate.
I'm hoping that this is enough information.

Here is the following information:

Elizabeth M. M. Stockfleth (nee Schultz)
Lars Jonsson
Hamburg, Germany
Married: 25-04-1869

I'm not sure what state Hamburg is in.

Also, I was looking to obtain my g-grandmother's birth certificate:

Anna Emilie Jacobine Jonsson
Hamburg, Germany
Birth: 10-08-1869

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Thanks so much,

Judy Scheer

I do not think that marriage certificates were used in Hamburg or
other areas of what became Germany before 1880 or 1900.

The marriage was a church affair and the record was entered into
the church record where the man and woman were married.
You will have to know where and in what church the marriage took
place and search the church records. The same is true for a birth
certificate.
Were the persons of the Catholic faith or of the Evangelisch Reformierte
Church.
Very many churches have their records microfilmed, but not all, and are
available from the Family History Library (Morman ) in Salt Lake City.
The local Family History Center ( check your local phone book)
will be able to guide you in ordering the film.

There is no central office in Germany for the time period that you are
interested in so marriage records are in the church records.

Good luck
Thomas

Hallo Lars,
I found the same difficulty like you. Im living fare away from Hamburg
without any possibility to look for myself.
Ive got the name and adress of some professionel who looks for me. He
was able to give me copies of marriage certification of that period.
I visited him in january this year in Hamburg.
Ask:
Mr. Johanes Vogel, Kerstensweg 6c D-22089 Hamburg
it will cost about 25,00 - 30,00 a hour.
