Marck surname

Hi,

I am tracing my family tree and have reached a bit of a dead end in
Copenhagen in the mid 1700’s with some soldiers with the surname Marck.

The particular ancestor's I am looking for is Martin Marck (born approx.
1755 whereabouts unknown). He is my 5 times Great Grandfather. He married
4 times, had a number of children, most of whom died very young, then he
died himself in Copenhagen in 1828. The first record I have of him is for
the 1787 Copenhagen census where he is listed as a Tailor aged 30, boarding
and single. I have a massive amount of information on Martin Marck but
nothing on where he came from, his birth record or his parents.

During my searching in Copenhagen, I have also found numerous records of
soldiers with the same surname of Marck. The ages of the soldiers would
indicate that any one of 6 soldiers I found with the surname Marck could
have been the father of Martin Marck. The soldiers certainly knew each
other, were probably related and are mentioned in some cases together on
marriage records from around the mid 1700's. Most soldiers in Denmark up to
about 1770 were mercenaries from Germany.

The soldiers I have found in Copenhagen with the correct surname were:

Hans Jacob Marck (Obrist Klees Artillery)

Johann Jorgen (Jürgen) Marck (Obrist Klees Artillery)

Johann Christian Marck (Obrist Klees Artillery)

Johann Peter Marck (Obrist Klees Artillery)

Johann Phillip Marck

Freiderich Marck (Musketeer in Major Güldencrone’s Holstein Regiment

Hans Jacob Marck is possibly the oldest as he had a son confirmed in 1759
from another marriage. Hans Jacob Marck is also the earliest listed in
Communicant records for "The Citadel" in Copenhagen.

I believe that most of these 6 soldiers were at least brothers or cousins.
The soldiers above began appearing in records in Copenhagen in the mid
1740's. I cannot find many records for them after 1764.

What I need to find is where these soldiers came from. Perhaps then I can
find some links to the Martin Marck I am searching for.

When I search Familysearch.org or MyHeritage or Ancestry.com, I find a lot
of records with the Marck surname in the Westfalen, Prussia area.

I hope you can help or direct me to someone who specialises in German
Military units from around that time.

Regards

Jim Mark
