Map of Hannover c. 1877

Dear Katherine,
nice to read again another message from you.

Until 1759 Überhamm belonged to the parish of Scharmbeck, thereafter it is
part of the parish of Worpswede.
About 1670 the first inhabitants settled in Überhamm.
All inhabitants of this village are specified in a list of 1760 resp. 1775
copy of which is in my hand.
An excellent help for studying the genealogy of Überhamm is the "Familienbuch
Worpswede" published by Franz Stelljes in the year 2000.
My personal ancestors from Überhamm are the following:
Johann Stelljes (1751-1812)
Hennecke Stelljes (1704-1781)
Hibbel Wendelken (1714-1798)
Dierck Lütjen (1710-1790)
Hennecke Stelljes (1665-1735)
Margretha Heissenbüttel (1680-1719)
Hinrich Wendelken (1685-1766)
Hinrich Lütjen( living in the first half of the18th century)
Hinrich Wendelken (1689-1748)
Ahlcke Kück (1688-1778)
Gerke Wendelken (living in the second half of the 17th century)

Kind regards to you, Katherine

Albin von Spreckelsen

Dear Albin and Katherine,

Listed are my ancestors who were born, lived or died in berhamm:

Friedrich Tienken (1774-1831)
Johann Hinrich Tienken (1740-1819)
Gesche Wellbrock (1736-1830)
Mangels or Magnus Gerken (1758-1797)
Marten Gerken (1715-1799)
Wollberich Stelljes (1721-1804)
Peter Stelljes (1688-1753)
Ann Monsees (1692-1774)
Jrgen Stelljes (ca 1661-betw 1689-1697)
Henneke Stelljes (ca 1659-1718)
Wolbrich Stelljes (ca 1666-1726)
Peter Stelljes (ca 1632-1687) Uncle of Albin's ancestor Henneke Stelljes
(1665-1735)

Franz Stelljes writes: "Staatsarchiv Bremen, Stadtrechnungsbuch 1655-57 S.469:
Peter Stelling hat Jrgen Segelken Tochter geschwngert, soll deswegen 3
Reichsthaler geben." I have heard that berhamm was founded when a landowner's
son, who lived on the other side of the river Hamm, was about to become a father
with an unmarried servant girl in his father's household, and the father
purchased land "Over the Hamm", or berhamm, for the couple. Does anyone have
more information about this story? Peter Stelles married Abelke Segelken
"<1659"; their eldest child Henneke was born "um 1659".
