If you have a 'User's Guide' for your computer you will find what you
require under "Extended Characters", which are little used technical,
mathematical symbols plus accents for writing French, Danish, German, etc. .I don't know about Apple Mac, etc., but I should think they are the same as
Microsoft.Umlauts are possible by typing its numeric code.
You need to use the 'Numeric Keypad' which is on the right hand side of your
keyboard. All "Extended Characters" begin with a nought.1) Press the 'NUM LOCK' key.
2) Hold down the ALT key, and on the numeric keypad type the value of the
character you want.
3) Release the 'alt' KEY. The 'extended character' is inserted.Here are the numeric codes which you need to type vowels,etc with umlauts:-
0196 = Ä 0203 = Ë 0207 = Ï 0214 = Ö 0220 = Ü 0159 = Y
0228 = ä 0235 = ë 0239 = ï 0246 = ö 0252 = ü 0255 = ÿHappy typing
