Lüneburg

Dear List,

Is there anyone on the list who lives near Lüneburg, Hanover ? Perhaps you can advise me on which civil, state or church archive to contact for records of the family "Waltersdorff". Would the Evangelische Kirche Sankt Lamberti, Sankt Johannis and Sankt Nicolai Lüneburg be the only Ev. church in Lüneburg during the time period we are looking for?

The Waltersdorff family arrived in Australia in 1883 and were naturalized in 1904.

Eduard Karl Nicholaus von Waltersdorff, born 20 November 1813 Lüneburg Hanover
Occupation Cigar Maker.

Johann Jürgen August von Waltersdorff, born 4 October 1837 Lüneburg Hanover
Occupation Iron Moulder.

Maria Katharina Dorothea von Waltersdorff, born 20 September 1838 Lüneburg Hanover
Wife of Johann Jürgen August.

Johann Martin Adolf von Waltersdorff, born 31 October 1865 Lüneburg Hanover
Occupation Cigar Maker.

LDS have filmed the following records for Lüneburg:
Kirchenbuch, 1652-1937 Evangelische Kirche. Militärgemeinde Lüneburg. It does not appear that this family would be recorded in the Military church registers.

Kirchenbuch-Index, 1560-1800 Evangelische Kirche Sankt Lamberti, Sankt Johannis and Sankt Nicolai Lüneburg. This index does not cover the years we are looking for.

I have also checked the German phone book and there are only about five people named Waltersdorff listed, I hope some contact can be made with other family members.

Does anyone know if there are any guild records for Cigar Makers or the names of any Cigar manufacturers in Lüneburg, please.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Elizabeth

Greetings from Australia

Elizabeth, you might be able to get some information from a Mr.
Matthias Steinke who lives in or works in Lneburg. He speaks
english and has helped me in the past. His email address at the
time was "Madsteinke@aol.com". It has been about two years since
I've corresponded with him.

Hello Elisabeth,

there is also St.Michaelis and the church of the monastery Lne, where also
marriages and other events where documented. Nowadays all parish-books are
gathered atone place: Bei der St.Johanniskirche 11. One may study the parishbooks
there for a daily fee of 6 Euro on one's own, if you need scientific assistance
in finding and dicifering, that counts additional 8,-Euro the quarter of an hour.
All Lneburg parishbooks are in copy to befound in the statearchive in Hannover
I went there and looked up a single entrance for someone of the list before and
he sent me the fee of 6,-Euro. I could do that again.

Johann Martin Adolf von Waltersdorff, born 31 October 1865 Lneburg Hanover

What is the full name, "von" or without "von" and then Waltersdorf(f)

registers.

Would see it the same way, but if there is an aristocratic background, one should
see also there, because of relatives and further news on that way.

Kirchenbuch-Index, 1560-1800 Evangelische Kirche Sankt Lamberti, Sankt
Johannis and Sankt Nicolai Lneburg. This index does not cover the years we
are looking for.

Well, see my offer above.

I have also checked the German phone book and there are only about five
people named Waltersdorff listed, I hope some contact can be made with
other family members.

I found a lot of more Waltersdorf, only difference "f" and "ff" at the end in
1995 and added the list in the addendum.

Does anyone know if there are any guild records for Cigar Makers or the
names of any Cigar manufacturers in Lneburg, please.

Not yet. But I will try to inform myself about it.

Any suggestions would be very welcome. Elizabeth. Greetings from Australia

Sincerely Hans Peter Albers, Heinrichstr.21, 29553 Bienenbttel(17km to Lneburg)

P.S.: Unfortunately the message was refused with the addendum of the addresses
out of the telephonebook 1996 with about 40 Wolfsdorf(f), so I have to cut it out
to get the message on the list. It was said, that the list administrator may send
it of give it free after watching it. So perhaps the list will come lateron.

Hello Hans Peter,

A big thank you for your generous offer. I have also contacted you off line. I am sure everyone on this list really appreciates your knowledge and the advice you offer to us all.

Kindest regards,
Elizabeth
