Ludwig Rohde/ Theodore Rohde(b1831) Himmelsthur/Hildesheim

Greetings All,
I am Theodore Rohde's great great granddaughter, and I will be in the
Himmelsthur/Hildesheim area in a few weeks. I would be very happy to be
able to meet any Rohde's in the area. I am interested in finding the
Catholic Church where I may research records if possible. Any information
would be welcome!

Hello,

We have gone to the diocese of Osnabrück and the diocese of Wurzburg
(Bavaria) to do our own research in Germany. From that experience, I would
say that you must give yourself a LOT of time. The diocese of Hildesheim
(which would likely include Himmelsthur) is listed here:

Das Bistum Hildesheim | Bistum Hildesheim

I would go to the Kontakt page in the right corner and send an email to
the office there and give them the day(s) when you will be there. In some
places they will give you an appointment. When we went to Osnabrück, I
called from home in Colorado in advance. Give yourself lots and lots of
time. In Wurzburg, we really struggled. No one there understood any English
at all. Reading the script was almost impossible at times. I don't know what
Hildesheim will be like. Allow a lot of time!!! I doubt that you can go to
any individual church to do research there. Most of them will refer you to
the Diocesan offices.

You will probably pay a lot wherever you go.

I wish you lots of luck!

Thank you so much for the advice! I really appreciate it! Luckily my
husband speaks German and I'll lean heavily on him for translation! Thank
you again!

Hi again, I just wanted to tell you that there are 14 Rhode names in the
phone book for Hildesheim today. You can contact them if you would like:

I have a friend who wanted to find her Italian relatives in two different
parts of Italy. She wrote 35 letters (from the Italian phone book) and got
many returns. Then she went to visit them and they've been close ever since.
