Looking for ancestor

Good day,

I stumbled upon this list and there was a posting from Reinhard Freytag
2001/02/01 which had in his post the names of my

Ancestors Sasse/Szasse and Sporlender (Sporleder)

(Heinrich) Jean Andre Sasse was a son of Christian Sasse and Catherine
Sporleder.

I thought he was from Magdeburg but most recently I believe he may have been
from Calbe(Saale)

He was a Hessian soldier with the Brunswick troops, and stayed in Canada and
married a French girl.

I would really like to know more about his family (parents, siblings,
ancestors) on both the Sasse and Sporleder sides.

He is my brick wall, someone please help!!!

Regards,

Lynne Johnston (Zastre)

Hello,

This is a good place to start:

  http://meta.genealogy.net/

Put the name(s) in the "Nachmann" and nothing else.
"ort" is for the city -

If you go to the LDS, you will find a lot:

Good luck,

Good day,

Hello Lynne

I have a book about "The Brunswick Troops in North-America 1776 - 1783", an
"Index about all Soldiers who stayed in North-America" and I took a look at
it. I found two Sasse in it (Page 93, running number 2179 and 2180):

Heinrich Sasse, born in Stade in 1736, served his duty in Leibcompany of the
Musketeer Regiment "Specht", finished his duty on July 22, 1783 and stayed
in Canada.

Erdmann Sasse, born in Gross Schoenbergen in 1751 and served his duty in the
2. Rec. (What ever this means). He finished his duty on July 10, 1783.

Stade is not very far away from Hamburg. It's located directly at the river
Elbe. I have no idea where Gross Schoenbergen is located.

An English version of the book is also available in Canada. Contact the
German-Canadian Museum of Applied History in Scarborough. They also have an
internet page. The Canadian ISBN is 3-925320-02-4.

Have luck.

Wolfgang from Brunswick.

Hello Wolfgang,

Would you please look in the Book for Bartling. I found two Bartling's who
served but could never find any reference to them returning to Germany. I
suspect they may have stayed here. Possibly in Pennsylvania.

Thank you in advance if you do have the time to check for me.

Hallo Wolfgang,
Ehefrau) in Burgdorf b. Hannover
Vielen Dank.

Herzliche Grüße
Brigitte (Schymura)

Hello Bill

No problem but unfortunately are no Bartlings listed. Sorry.

Have a nice day.

Wolfgang

Hallo Brigitte,

angegeben.

Dear Lynne and Listies,

Hi,
Google Book search includes a title:
German Mercenary Expatriates in the United States and CanadaBy Clifford Neal Smith
Published by Genealogical Publishing Com, 2006ISBN 0806353058, 9780806353050223 pages

You may preview various sections, including indexed names.
Page 40Sasse, Heinrich Sasse, Erdmann
Birthplaces exactly as mentioned by Wolfgang in his post.

Page 46Sporleder, Johan

Page 47SuessSuesse(including a Heinrich from Madgeburg)

I do not know if entire book can be previewed. But I do believe the entire index is available for search. The intial index page mentions to look for land grant or settlement in Nova Scotia if discharged in Canada. I believe all above noted were discharged Canada.

I only quickly skimmed data.

Warmest Regards,
Barbie-Lew
