perhaps the city you search called Stendal - this was a city in the area
"Altmark". It's 60km away from Magdeburg.

or 1851 in Stendau near Magdeburg. I cannot find a place called Stendau.
This information is taken from a marriage record here in the United States
and
it is possible the name Stendau was incorrectly read.
