LINZ family

 Hi Kristen:

Have a couple of questions first:

You state that the name "Hugo" was used by Mr. Linz for official
documents, but you list the emmigration date as "ca 1838". Have you
   seen the document(s)?

You state that he declared his intention for citizenship in 1839, but
you seem uncertain as to when he received it. Same question here.
   Have you seen the document(s)?

Even though he applied for a passport, did he leave the country?

The reason I ask these questions is: Are these dates and names
   hard facts?

I found the following on [1]WWW.CastleGarden.Org

   [2]First name [3]Last name [4]Occupation [5]Age [6]Sex [7]Arrived

Another problem is that there are so many given names for both
Francis and Dorothea. If they had relatives with the same first
name, they would likely be known by their second given name. An
example would be Francis, who was known as Hugo. His father may have
been Francis and he had an older brother named Joseph, thus he used
his third given name. Now this is supposition, but I believe it
would have a better than a 50-50 accuracy. Notice in the Steingrandt
info listed above. There is a Dorothea, a Sophia, and a Maria. three

of people on this list who may be able to provide you with assistance.

   Gale

Hi Gale

These are the OFFICIAL documents I have for Hugo (sometimes it was Hugh)

  -Declaration of intention
  -Land patent
  -Passport application
  -Marriage record

I have a newspaper article on the Steingrandts' 50th wedding anniversary in 1868 that one sister was back in Germany, and that they had not seen her in 20 years (this would match with the 1847 passport application).

I have all the information I can possibly have on the Steingrandts, including the immigration on the Ship Isabella (I have an ancestry.com subscription, so I have access to all this stuff already).

Linden is immediately outside the city of Hannover...you can find it on any map directly to the west of the city. It's basically a suburb of Hannover.

What I'm looking for is info on the Linz family, not the Steingrandts.

  Thanks

Hi Kristen,

there used to be more than one town named Linden in Prussia. Check:
http://www.gemeindeverzeichnis.de/gem1900/gem1900.htm?hannover/rb_hannover.htm

Maybe I found a trace of Hugo LINZ.
Chek this link:http://aidaonline.niedersachsen.de/

Pfad: Home > über Archive > Hauptstaatsarchiv Hannover > Staatshochbauamt
Hannover I vor 194... > Archivalien AIDA
or search for the last name. Most of the results refer to the Austrian town
Linz.

This is the entry:
Staatshochbauamt Hannover I vor 1945
Einzelne Personalakten
Bauschreiber Hugo Linz, Kiel
This is the order number of his file: Hann. 100 Hannover I Nr. 11

I believe LINZ was an employee of 'Staatshochbauamt' ( administration,
responsible for public building), born /or former resident of Kiel,
Schleswig Holstein.
I am sure his file contains his birthdate- and place.

You can't look at the file online. This is just a 'Findbuch', the files are
listed with their title, year, the place where they are kept and sometimes a
brief summary.
or search for the last name. Most of the results refer to the Austrian town
Linz.

Unusual last name in the Hannover area. There are only nine Linz listed in
the Hannover telefone book this year.

(Hannover) Linden used to be a 'Kreis' with several small villages belonging
to it. Today it is part of the town of Hannover.

Good luck,
Iris
