LINZ family

Greetings

Does anyone on the list have any info on the Linz/Linze family? Below is the only stuff I could find.

Francis Joseph Hugo Linz, born ca. 1811 in Germany (city unknown). He used the name Hugo for official documents. Emmigrated to the United States (St. Louis, MO) ca. 1838. Declared his intention to become an American citizen in 1839, received his citizenship before 1847. He applied for a passport to return to Germany in 1847, presumably with his family (at that time, the U.S. only required the head of household to have a passport). Did NOT return to U.S. to live, but possibly returned between 1868 and 1872 to visit.

Married Dorothea Sophia Elisabeth Clara Maria Steingrandt in 1838 in St. Louis, MO, USA. She was born ca. 1818 in Hannover Linden.

Children and place of residence in Germany are unknown. I assume they lived in the Hannover area.

  Thanks!

Hello Kristen,

You have quite a task. I've been hunting online and can't find much. If
you run a search on Franz Linz (Franz would be the German name for Francis):

n=francis
there is a death of your Linz listed. Maybe wrong.

Have you looked at the LDS site for Linden? There are several listed,
but the one that looks helpful would be Linden (StKr. Linden Hannover). You
can go to the LDS closest to you and order the films. It's tedious work, but
often you can find your relatives. Of course, it may be a waste of time and
the Steingrandts may be there, but not the Linz family. If they did return
there at one time, you might find what you're looking for.

All those names make it difficult! What name was his wife usually called?
I don't find them on the census in 1860 and beyond. I don't have access to
the years of 1850 or 1840 on Heritage Quest online.

Obviously, if the marriage was in 1838 as well as the emigration, they
could have met on the ship and married soon after. Have you found them on a
ship list? Do you know what area HE came from? Hannover?

Have fun,
Barbara
