Hello list,
I just talked to another uncle who shared some information that he said his
father told him about my GG Grandfather, FREDERICK H LAYMAN (LEHMANN). This
new information (also mentioned by another uncle) has my gg grandfather's
father working as a prison guard or as the person in charge of the prison.
Can anyone tell me of any known prisons in Hannover in the early to mid
1800's? Also any suggestions on how to research a said prison. Since I can't
seem to find any information on his entry into the USA, I thought I would
try finding his father who may of had the same first name. Unknown is the
exact area he came from other than what I can find on his Civil War military
records, some say just Germany, others say Hannover.
Any assistance or suggestions would be appreciated.
