Hello. My name is Max Salevsky and I am seeking your help in obtaining further information on the town once known as Lautenburg, West Preussen, Ger.. I have been doing geneology research on my family for many years but I have only been able to recover a small amount of records on them when they lived in Lautenburg. The records that I do have are from the fabulous work that the Church Of Latter Day Saints did in microfilming original documents. Unfortunately, these are quite incomplete and I would very much appreciate it if anyone could help to fill in the gaps.
I am aware that the town of Lautenburg is now Lidzbark Welski, Poland. I am searching for church records, civil registration, land records, guild records or any other documents that may still exist for the area from 1800-1893. My family's name was SALEWSKI and they attended the Evangelische Kirche im Lautenburg. In addition, they owned land in the town and had a cooperage, barrel making, business there. Again, I would love to find any documents listing their involvement there.
Beyond finding records of my family, I was in high hopes that someone out there may be familiar with the area, Lidzbark, as it exists today. I very much would like to hear about what the region and town are like. Perhaps someone reading this site lives near there. I would be forever greatful if you could respond, I would really enjoy chatting with you. Thank you very much for presenting this forum for research into OST und West Preussen.
