Lask Family

Hello fellow researchers:

Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2015 for you and your families!

Apologies that this message appears in English; my German is not strong
enough to compose this message in that language. I am just beginning my
research into my husband's side of the family, the Lasks from Zielasken /
Schelasken, East Prussia.

My husband's grandfather (Gus -- likely short for Gustav -- Lask) was born
there on 26 Dec 1927, and married Kathe von Gyldenfeldt (b. 2 Jun 1926 in
Germany / East Prussia, d. 24 Jul 2011 in Canada). Gus died on 20 Mar 2003
in Ontario, Canada. Gus and Kathe had five children, the eldest of which
was Thomas Lask (my husband's father), b. in 1950 in Germany / East
Prussia, and died in 2012 in Canada. Their other children were all born in
Canada.

Gus' parents were Gustav (b. 1 Oct 1894 in Zielasken, d. 5 Apr 1938) and
Helene (either geb. Lask or von Nieswandt -- I've found contradictory
sources on her maiden name; b. 11 Feb 1898, d. 18 Jul 1988). Gustav and
Helene had five children in addition to Gus: Martha (married Josef
Kosidowski), Anneliese (married Hermann Bartels), Herbert, Fritz (married
"Elisabeth"), and Christel (married a man with the surname Harz).

Gustav's mother is Auguste Lask geb. Godzieba, b. 20 Jul 1875, d. 10 Oct
1972 in Hamburg. Helene's mother is *possibly* Franziska von Nieswandt
geb. Kopowski, b. 23 Feb 1886, d. 21 Feb 1868.

Any information on these individuals, information related to Zielasken /
Schelasken or the general area of Kreis Lyck, East Prussia, or sources that
I might be able to use to continue my research would be much appreciated!

Regards,

Megan Lask

Hi Megan

You might try these records fro a start: Catalog Search Results for {parameters} - FamilySearch.org — FamilySearch.org

Because your records are within ~110 years, you may have difficulty finding very much.

Dear Megan,

I also do search for my Lask anchestors in the southern Part of Lyck. I have send you an email directly with some information about Zielasken, my Lask ancestors and some links for further possible sources.

Best Regards,
