Kyling Family of Hohegeiß

Dear List,

I am from Australia and I am looking for information about my ancestor,
Christian ‘Frederick’ Kyling, who migrated to Australia from Hohegeiß in
1856.

I recently found the following entry in ‘Auswandererlisten des ehemaligen
Herzogtums Braunschweig 1846-1871’ by Fritz Gruhne (p.111):

Kyling. Christian Friedrick, Seldenwirkergesell, 16.4.1832, Sohn des
Backermeisters Joh. Andreas Kyling und der Joh. Henriette Louise Berger.
Brg. Anz. 1855/205. Au.

If this family sounds familiar to anyone I would love to hear from you.

i live in Hohegeiß an I can say you, that some KYLING still live here in
my neighbourhood :slight_smile: I know the family a long time ago. In my childhood i
played with the grandchild of them :slight_smile:

I you want, i can tell them, that you looking for there ancestors :slight_smile:

Translated:
Wind blacksmith Abraham Killing and letting the forge on
Ludwig hut to his son Christian Kyling

Note the spelling of Killing - may become important on earlier records.

If you can get the church records, you should be able to find more.

Dear Barbara, Carl, Dirk & Rolf,

Thank you so much for your responses to my Kyling enquiry.

CARL - Some time after arrival in Australia 'Fred' Kyling married in the
Church of England and I have no evidence that he was Lutheran, but he may
have been raised Lutheran, or previous generations of his family may have
been Lutheran so I will enquire at the Niedersachsisches Staatsarchiv.

DIRK - Yes please I would appreciate it if you could tell the Kylings of
Hohegeiß that I am looking for our ancestors. I will email you off the list
and give you some further information to pass on to them. And please don't
apologise for your English - your English is much better than my German!

BARBARA - Thank you for telling me about the Niedersächsischen Landesarchivs
online catalogue which I had not seen before. There are several other
entries for Kyling including my g-g-g grandfather Andreas. This is most
interesting.

ROLF - Entries from the phone directory are also very useful and I am
looking forward to going through the list with a map of the area beside me.
