KULESSA, Von KULESSA

Dear Subscribers

My name is Anita Kulessa and I am researching the name KULESSA. I have traced this name back to the late 1700's - and found that my KULESSA branch is from Silesia - mainly Bodland, but also surrounding regions. I am aware that some of my KULESSA ancestors are in East Prussia. I am also aware that some ancestors held the name Von KULESSA.

I am trying to establish the link between the East Prussian and the Silesian KULESSA's. I am trying to discover if we originated in East Prussia and then a branch of the family moved to Silesia, or did we originate in Silesia and then a branch of the family moved to East Prussia.

The oldest line of the KULESSA name that I am aware of is:

Matthias KULESSA, born about 1790, Silesia
Matthias married Rozalie KINDER.

I would be grateful if anyone could help me with my enquiries.

Best wishes

J.B. Rietstap Armorial General (late 19th Century) attributes the name Kulessa to the Polish nobilitity (Slachta: Slepowron = Coat of Arms Slepowron)

The German Honorary Army List of World War I (Ehrenrangliste) shows one v. Kulesza

2nd Lt (Ret) v. Kulesza

member of Koenigl Preussisches Dragoner Regiment von Wedel (Pommersches) Nr 11 stationed in Lyck
(since he was not listed in the Army list of 1914 he must have joined the Regiment after 1914)

Ernst

Many thanks Ernst-Axel
