KULESSA - East Prussia

Hello Vernon

In your email below, you ask me a very interesting question which I am
seeking the answer to - Where did my forebears live in East Prussia? I know
there are Kulessa's and von Kulessa's from East Prussia, a few of whom
migrated to the United States in the late 1800's - early 1900's.

I have been able to trace my direct family line to Silesia to about the late
1700's but believe there is a connection somewhere with East Prussia. But
where and why? Did my family originate in east Prussia and an off-shoot
move to Silesia or was it the other way around? A number of subscribers
have been kind enough to provide me with what information they have from
sources such as Quassowski-Kartei.

There are many Kulesza's in Poland today but I have discovered that my
direct family line, over the centuries, have retained the spelling of
Kulessa , with the two s's.

I don't know how and if ever, I am going to find the link between Silesia
and east Prussia, however, the journey of discovery is a very interesting
one and I very much enjoy hearing of similar quests by our fellow
subscribers.

Cheers
Anita

Hello Anita,
I would guess from the name that your forebears lived
in Upper Silesia. Where did they live? My forebears
Dittert and Jaschke lived in the Grafschaft Glatz. I
went first in 1964 and again in 2001 to Bad Landeck
and
the smaller towns. They left in 1852 for Texas.
Greetings from sunny Texas,
Vernon
Where do you live? Two brothers Horadam from Erbach/
Rheingau settled in Maitland, NSW. My great-great-
grandfather sailed in 1849 to Texas

Hi Vernon,

in which parish of "Grafschaft Glatz" did they live. I ask because some
of my ancesters are from "Heinzendorf", "Niederhansdorf" and "Landeck".

Hello Vernon
You are right, my forebears did live in Upper Silesia. They were from Basan
and Borkenwalde, in the region Kreuzberg. Roughly about 40km north east of
Oppeln.
I am intrigued as to what you based your correct assumption on?
I now live in Canberra, the capital of Australia, but I was born in
Newcastle which is not very far from Maitland in NSW.

Cheers
Anita
