Kuhlmann-rodewald

My KUHLMANN ancestors come from Rodewald, not to far from Hannover. When I requested information from the Rodewald Lutheran Parish, they gave my request to a German researcher. This reseacher has been very helpful but only communicates in German. I have additional questions for the list. 1) The researcher says "The occupants of the Vollmeierstelle, House No. 1 had in previous generations placed the name KUHLMANN before their birth name RODEWALD and called themselves KUHLMANN-RODEWALD". Is this a common practice and could anyone explain why? Also what does Vollmeier and Vollmeierstelle mean. 2) The researcher, from property records, indicates that KUHLMANN'S lived in Rodewald from about the mid 1500's. However, he was only able to trace my ancestors back to the mid 1700's because a parish fire destroyed the earlier records. My earliest known KUHLMANN relative was Hans Heinrich KUHLMANN born 27 May 1739 in Rodewald and died 18 Feb 1799 in Rodewald. His wife was Catharine Marie Fiene born 19 Sep 1749 and died 20 Apr 1808. Are their any suggestions how to track down the earlier KUHLMANN'S?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Hello,
The Mormons have a microfilm of a book of the history of Rodewald. If
you are near to a LDS center, you can order the film and view it there. It
obviously is in German, but perhaps you can find the names and dates you are
looking for. This is the name of the book:

Die terra Rodewald : eine niedersächsische Landschaft in ihrer räumlichen
und geschichtlichen Entwicklung
von Otto Niemeyer und Berthold Frost

Good luck,
Barbara

I can help you with one Kuhlmann, but it's around 1900, and by this time, a descendant is in Bremer County Iowa.

Hello together,

"Rodewald" exists in a double way. There is once the place RODEWALD, a village,
and secondly the region RODEWALD, which is the name of a landscape, the whole
wooden region around the village, after which the region was named. The book
about the terra Rodewald will - going by the title - concentrate on the more
general aspects of the region. As one cannot do that without refering permanently
to people of the region there should be chances to find some of the own names.

best wishes and good success Hans Peter Albers
