Kruger, John F. - looking for relatives and where he was from

HiI cannot find the place of birth of my great grandfather, JohannFriedrich Krüger. Could you offer some suggestions ?Could you help me find his relatives ?
CAME TO THIS COUNTRY

We have different dates as to when he may have come to this country:
1. 1864 Source is his obituary. age 16
2. June 25th 1867 Source is his first naturalization papers. age 19
3. 1867 Source is the 1910 and 1920 census of MN age 19
4. 1870 Source is the 1900 census. age 22
5. 1870 Source is the 1905 Minnesota state census. age 22 when he came to usa.
So 3 records say 1867 is when he came(his first naturalization record, census of 1910 and 1920.

Prussia is same like Preussen. Posen (today Poznan) is a city in Poland.
And unfortuntely the name Kruger/Krüger is as frequently as Smith or Tailor :frowning:

PLACES
OF BIRTH:
John (JOHANN) Friedrich (Fred) /Krüger/. Born 16 Aug 1847 in
Prussia.
We are trying to find out where he was born in Prussia.
Different
places of birth for John.
1. On my ggrandfather's naturalization papers he said
he was from Prussia.
2. His obituary says he was from Preusen, Germany. Died in
Barnesville, Minnesota, USA. Preusen also sounds like Posen.

Hi Alan

It sounds like you are searching for a needle in a haystack. The real estate you mention in your note covers some 120,000 square miles and at that time period had a population in excess of 40 million people.

The question you really will need to ask yourself is:

  * If I found you one Johann Friedrich Krüger... but would it be yours?
    How would you know?

So we need something 'unique' to research and compare against.

Additionally you need to be aware that the areas of East/West Prussia, Pomerania, and Posen you mention lost between 30-90% of their church records (varying by location... and accuracy of allied munitions in WW2). I am certain I speak for many people on this list when I say, I'd love to help, but you really need to give me something to work with like:

  * his birth town, village, province(I know you already said you don't
    know these things)
  * his language (spoken & written)
  * family customs which may have come 'through' him
  * any photos of the old country
  * letters that may have been sent to/from his 'relatives' in the old
    country
  * financial donation arrangements that may have existed with German
    family in WW1 or WW2
  * notes from a family bible
  * other people from Germany that he may have moved in with when he
    came to the US
  * other Germans in his community, where did they come from?

Beyond that, there really is nothing very useful that can be done...

Guten Morgen, Elisabeth,

Nachzulesen z.B. hier:
<http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geschichte_der_Deutschen_in_den_Vereinigten_Staaten>

und dann abwärts scrollen bis zum Kapitel 1. Weltkrieg.
