I was wondering if anyone had any information on a Kohlrust family. Several
records I have found for my family, (specifically Heinrich Friedrich
Kohlrust and his family. He came to the US in 1871 - Port listed was
Bremen) site Hannover as the place of origin, but I have been unsuccessful
in finding any additional information. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
My great-grandparents came over the same year Heinrich
Kohlrust did so I assumed that he came to Castle
Garden. I went to http://www.castlegarden.org and
placed an * in the first name field and Kohlrust for
last name and came up with the following entry:
First name Heinr.
Last name Kohlrust
Occupation Unknown
Age 29
Sex M
Arrived 23 Oct 1871
Origin Germany
Ship Baltimore
They are still working on this site so you may want to
check back later if this is not your relative.
FYI... I started my research in the U.S. on
rootsweb.com under the state and county where my
grandparents lived. No one in my family knew for sure
the name of the town in Germany where my grandfather
was born. The church records lead me to information
regarding my grandfather's two sisters whom I didn't
know existed. After several emails to the local
genealogist, I confirmed their connection to me. Their
information listed the town in Germany where they were
born.
Hope this helps and best of luck in your research.
Michele

Thank you all for your help! It has been so wonderful! I will be writing
the Kohlrusts that you all were so kind to send me the information on.
Hopefully that will help to find some more information.
Michele, thank you so much. I believe that was my great Grandfather's
record. I am hoping to get a copy to see if I can find any additional
information.
