Klosteramt District / Pauls

Hello Listers,

I am looking for information on the Klosteramp
District of Mecklenburg during the mid to late 1800's.
My Great-Grandfather Heinrich Pauls immigrated to the
United States from Hamburg to New York on the SS Maas
arriving on April 20, 1874. He married Johanna
Wiggers in August of 1874 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. St.
Willebrord Catholic Church records state that he is
the son of Cornelius Pauls and Catherine Michels and
came from Klosteramt, Prussia. I have found mention
of this district in the Mecklenburg Census which
states that the following:

K.A. - Klosteramt (Monastery District). A Kloster is a
cloister or monastery. Klosterg�ter were under the
jurisdiction of the Catholic Church.
Amt Dobbertin
Amt Malchow
Amt Ribnitz
Kloster zum Heiligen Kreuz

Are these towns in the district? Are they still a
part of Mecklenburg? Would there be a town named Amt
Kloster? Are there any 'Pauls' still living there?
Where should I look next?

Hi Karen
All of the Klosters that you have listed are cities in Mecklenburg. In each
of those cities there is a monestary. It is hard to say which one they came
from. Do you have any more information on other towns? It might help in
narrowing down which Kloster they were from.
Another thing to try is doing general web searches on www.google.com and
www.altavista.com. This is how I found a majority of the info on my family
name.
The other thing that helps is if you know the whole name. First, middle,
confirmation and last name.
I was doing some looking around and I found a Johanna Wiggers that was
married to a Henry Pauls. It is on Ancestry.com. I also tried Family
History Library but the site is down for maintenence. If I get a chance I
will look tomorrow.

Hallo,
hat jemand zuf�llig das B�rgerbuch Rostock (F.Schubert) und kann nach meinem
Wilhelm Brockmann und ev. Christine Brockmann schauen? Beide haben Ende der
1850/Anfang 1860 in Rostock gelebt. Wilhelm war B�rger, Christine
B�rgersfrau- ich wei� jedoch nicht, ob die beiden miteinander verheiratet
waren.
Ich m�chte versuchen, auf diesem Wege die zugeh�rige Kirche herauszufinden.
