Hi everybody! I am new at this list and write better in english than german. I hope you understand.
I am Inga and live in Sweden.
I search for the surname Klawitter. Anyone who knows a thing, answer me please. My grandmother had the Klawittername before she married. She was born 1901 in Bromberg, now Bydgoszcz. Her father was Michael Klawitter, born 8 June 1867 and died 2 March 1947 in Germany, near Berlin, (Guben). Michael Klawitter married 3 times.
1: to Anna Magdalena Tscharnke born 24 Februar 1859 in Czarnikau, today Czarnkow, died 7 June in Bromberg. Had 2 daughtersElisabeth and Martha. Her father was Wilhelm Tscharnke born 1813 Liegnitz, now Legnica, died1898 ,her mother was Friederike Pommerenke born 1829, died 1877. Wilhelm moved to Bromberg with his family.
2: to Helene Kopelke, had 1 son, Gerhard Klawitter who moved to USA.
3: to Maria Magdalena Seidel, no children.
Michael Klawitters father was Johannes Michael Klawitter, born 14 October 1819.
My branch came from Danzig. There was 2 branches of Klawitter, the "rich" and the "poor". These 2 branches are also related to each other. The "rich" Klawitter owned the Klawitterwerft.
There is also a told "secret" about the "rich" ones.
Anyone who knows more about this people answer.

My grandmother married to Herbert Wentzke. Herbert was born in Stolp, Stupsk 13 Januar 1904. Herberts father was Eduard Wentzke, born 1885 in Stolp, died 1930. Herberts mother was Emma Heim, she died 1922 in Stolp.
I want all help I can get to go to the past and perhaps find more relatives.

Hello Inga,
                   I have a few Klawitter references.
Maas has the following,
619 ND Klawittersdorf, Kr. Deutsch-Krone. Was established 1590 as a
German Schulzendorf, the first Schulze was Dyonysius Klawitter, the
family resided still on the Freischulzengut 1851 (Schultz). The
Evangelical church was handed over to the Catholics 1605. Source:
Schmidt, Schu.

Walther Maas, p.85, Zur Siedlungskunde Westpreussens 1466-1772
(Marburg/Lahn 1958).

"ND" stands for a "new German" settlement in Maas' terms and the
number is that given to the place on his map - of which I have only a
much faded copy.

While looking through the LDS films for R.C. Prangenau, I noted the
some Klawitter entries as I have an ancestress, Marianna Klawikowna,
from who's marriage to Joannes Gurski of Buszkowo, Prangenau parish
on 29 Oct 1752 at Gorny Buszkowy, Prangenau parish, I am descended.
  I am not sure if Klawitter - Klawik - Klawikowski are the same name:
Does anyone have any suggestions?

15 Oct 1747, at Goszyn. Martinus Klawyter (sic), native of Ra~tar,
married Barbara Krajewska, native of Glincz (which is in R.C. Zuchau
parish).

Film no. 0531375 Prangenau
18 Mar 1750, at Goszyn. Susanna was baptised, daughter of Martinus
Klawiter and Barbara.
12 Jul 1748, at Goszyn. Marianna (all details as above).
26 Aug 1731, at Maydany. Michael was baptised, son of Bartholomaus
Klawyter and Anna.

30 Jul 1740, at Maydany. Twins, Eva and Magdalena, parents
Bartholomaus Klawik (?) and Anna.
5 Jan 1744 at Stengwald. Joannes (all details as above).
28 Jul 1737 at Maydany. Anna was baptised the daughter of Bartholomaus
Klawikowski and Anna,

26 Dec 1743 Thomas was baptised the son of Adamo Klawiter and
Marianna.

The following interrments are recorded:
2 Feb 1784 Catharina daughter of Thomas Klaw... (the rest of the name
is obscured) aged 3years at Lisewo.
17 Feb 1784 Marianna at 6 months (details as above except that place
given as "Lysowy" which is almost certainly just another spelling).
1785 without baptism (details as above, place given as Lisewo).

I include these little tragedies for completeness although it always
upsets me to see them.
