What we know:

WALTER Kirschstein (catholic) and LUCY Hartmann(protestant) married around 1929-1930 and had 4 children:

Gunter Kirschstein 1924? possibly born in Giersdof?
Bodo Kirschstein 1933? Born in Schmeideberg
Renate Kirschstein 1935? Born in Schmeideberg
Christl Kirschstein 1937( Christl is my mother) born in Wolfshau

WALTER is one of 2 children-- WALTER had a sister Erna Kirschstein and we do not know the names of their parents.
The father of Walter Kirschstein was said to have been a mayor of a small town. We know of one brother of WALTER's Father, we dont know his name, The brohter was married to Helena Kirschstein, they had several children-- all died of tuberculosis except one son that survived names Henry Kirschstein.
The mother of Walter Kirschstein may possibly have been named Hedwig.

LUCY Hartmann is one of six children: Georg Jr ( a chef and owned a large restaurant in Berlin), Lucy, Evelyn ( Lina), Susanna(Suse), Charlotte(Lotte), Meta.
LUCY's parents are name Georg Hartmann Sr and we are not sure, but think the name of her mother is Minna Gebauer. We have no information on her.
The father of LUCY, Georg Hartmann Sr has at least 3 siblings that we know of-- but we do no know their names. He has one older brother by his mother. She died at childbirth with Georg Sr. His father remarried and had at least 2 others kids, one is a girl possibly named Lou or Louise, Luisa Hartmann.
We know one brother went to Africa, possibly Cameroon
One brother was a musician in an orchestra in Berlin. He was heard on the radio at the time. He possibly played the cello.

Hallo Michelle,

You have started on a long and difficult journey. Finding out anything about your parents people in Schlesien is going to be a challenge.
First you need to know the correct location.

Is it Wolfsau near Hirschberg ? where your mother was born in 1937 ?

Is it Schmiedeberg near Hirschberg , for Bodo and Renate Kirschstein ?

For Giersdorf , I count about eleven locations in Schlesien. However, there is one Giersdorf near Hirschberg, that maybe yours.

Also, it's not so much Polish that you need, but German. Any information surviving, would be in German.

Have you googled Silesia, Prussia, Germany ? Knowing the history is very important, to finding out any information .

I may be able to help you a little. I am sure, you will be able to get more help from all the nice people on this list.

Christine
