Kingdom of Hannover

Hello

Can someone on the Liste please answer a question for me? In reading the history of the Kingdom of Hannover I found that from (date ?) until 1806 the name was "Kurfürstentum Hannover" From1815 until 1866 the name was "Kingdom of Hannover" and from 1866 until ? the name was "Kingdom of Prussia, Hannover Province" I would like to know what the name was between 1806 and 1815.

Thank you,

Don Knoepfel

This was the time of the Napoleonic Wars and borders changed. Roughly said the northern part became part of France, the south belonged to the Kingdom of Westfalen, allied with France.

Hello Don,

Is it allowed to ask you for which families you are searching?
I am sesrching for a family Meffers (Ma[e]vers and so on, who was from
the Kingdom
of Hannover and immigrated to the U.S.A. prior to the 1850 census was
taken, perhaps in 1846.

The 1850 census records father Henry Mavers 42 years old, mother
Dorothea 41 years old,
and daughters Dorothea 13, years old Caroline 7 years old and Elizabeth
6 years old
living in New Orleans.

At the time of the 1860 the daughters appears to be living in
Louisville, Kentucky.
Dorothea was married in Sep. 1857 to Paul Schaefer, a tailor, native of
Bavaria,
and her younger sisters lived with them in the same household, they were
record
as "Mayfors". It's to say this last name occured in so many spellings,
in Germany as
well as in the U.S.A.
Both census records "Hanover" as the place of birth for the
Meffers/Mavers,
but it may be obvious it means the country, not the City of Hannover.
Unfortunately I could not find out right now from which place they came
from.
By the way, Elizabeth married to David Stengel on Nov. 19, 1867 at the
Roman
Catholic St. Boniface Church in Louisville, Kentucky. David was born
March 21, 1834
in Stetten bei Haigerloch, Germany. at the time he was born this place
was belonged
to the Oberamt (County of) Haigerloch, in the Principality of
Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen
(from 1850 to 1945 Kingdom of Prussia, today Zollernalbkreis (County) in
the State of
Baden-Wurttemberg. David was an older brother to my great grandfather
Augustin Stengel
who remained in Germany and lived in the town of Haigerloch.

Hello Don.

the name of the state between 1806 - 1815 was still "Kurfürstentum
Hannover", but it was occupied first by Prussian then by French troops and
subject of several reorganizations, which were abolished after 1815.

Best wishes

Lieber Herr Thiele,
