Greetings, I am new to this list ....what is AIDA? I have gotten all of my information from the Ev-luth Landskirche in Brauschweig. There is a charge for this service. I have gotten names of my ancestors from them...but I don't really know much about the Kingdom of Hannover....and I hope that I can learn more about this area from this group.
My great grandfather Johann Andreas Christian Freiderich Eggeling b January 20th 1822 was a deputy grand bandmaster with one of the Dukes in Ohlendorf....until 1851, when he left and settled in Lund Sweden. I can not read German...but I have a friend who can, or I use and oneline translation program.
I wonder if anyone in this group would be willing to point me in a direction I could go in acquiring more information. Anything would be helpful.
Thank you
Lisbeth Edwards
Hello Lisbeth,
AIDA is a directory for the Niedersachsen archives. That would include
the former kingdom of Hannover, etc. You can search the records and order
documents or whatever. I ran a check on Eggeling and Ohlendorf and there
was only one result much earlier than the 1800's. However, there are a
great many hits when using the Eggeling name only. You might try the your
g-grandfather's name or whatever. The Aida address is:
By the way, there are a lot of results on a Google search for Eggeling
and Ohlendorf together.

Hello Lisbeth,
Welcome to the List. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised by all the
very helpfull people you will find here.
I'm sure you'll get a lot of answers about the Kingdom of Hannover. My
answer is to direct you to my website about the information I've discovered in
the last five years while researching my ancestors. I've included a chapter
about the history of the Kingdom of Hannover which you may find of interest.
My website is at <http://www.roddy.net>
Once you get to the welcome page click on the "Benjestorf" button on the left
side of the screen. Then click the "Hannover" button at the top of the screen.
This will take you to a few brief introductory comments which are follwed by a
blue link to "Hannover". Click that link and you will download a PDF file of
my chapter about the history of the Kingdom of Hannover. If you use a dial up
connection to the Internet it may take you a few minutes to download the file
... be patient.
