I am looking for C(K)ARL (CHARLES FREDERICK KERWATH) ancestors.
According to Ellis Island records, his name is listed Carl Kerwoth, he
arrived in the U.S. in 1902 at the age of 25. His residence was listed
as E. Prussia. His name is listed on his death certificate as Charles
Kerwath, death 5-14-1921, which gives his birth year as 1878 and his
age at death 43. His Birthplace is listed as Germany and his mother is
listed as EMMA RUHNAU, birthplace, Germany. His father is listed as
Don't Know. I don't know where to begin to find his parents and
birthplace. He named his son, Hugo Charles, I don't know if this is a
family name. His obituary list his name as Charles Frederick Kerwath.
He married in the U.S., MARY WISNEWSKI, her birthplace is listed as
Germany, and her parents listed as RUDOLPH WISNEWSKI AND LOUISE HENOPKA,
I know of one sibling, IDA WISNEWSKI, who married a Szonn, and had a
daughter, HERTA SZONN, who came to the U.S. from East Prusssia in the
early 1930's. Her daughter was born in Tilsit. Is anyone familar with
any of these names, or have suggestions, I have written to some of the
Kerwaths listed in the Germany directory, but none have answered.
Thanks for any help. Linda Cox, Southern Illinois, U.S.A.
I have the surname Szonn in my Obschernings-
Schneidereit-Gerull Family Tree. This family
tree originates out of Kreis Niederung, the
villages of Kletellen, Wannaglauken and
Gross Aerfliess.
I am not sure where the surname (Szonn)
originates but my mother's, brothers first
wife was reportedly born in Breslau (near
Berlin)..........
I would appreciate hearing from you as this
is the first I have seen of the Szonn surname.
