I am somewhat overwhelmed finding where to start locating origins of the
Boehm/ Böhm family, especially a great grandfather max frederick wilhelm
karl Böhm (boehm) (bn 2/2/1851 west prussia, died Bay City MI, USA
2/22/1910). Orally, he stated to his family that he emigrated from
Marienwerder Prussia (kwidzyn Poland) from Hamburg to Baltimore Maryland in
1873. His fiance was Eleanora Novark, or Novalk, Nowark?16 year old from
Gunthen, Prussia, or Gonty Poland just 12 miles east and just north of
Prabuty, Poland. I checked LDS family website and they have his father as
William Bohm (Boehm) and mother as Wilhelmina Wollenberg. I will check with
them for their source.
But where does one start concerning German records that were probably burned
or transferred after WWll ? They were lutheran. I found a passenger list
from Bremen in 1873, the year that he stated to the 1910 census taker in Bay
City, MI with two sister, leonore Novalk who was written down as 20 when she
was really only 16. Any leads would certainly help. Thankyou for your time.

thankyou so much for you help. i dont speak german, but remember many words and sounds since my grandparents spoke it all the time. my great grandfather was from marienwerder, grandmothers from gunthen and posen, and another grandfather from Homberg (not Hamberg). i found a homberg in saarland, and that could possibly be his kreis of origin, instead of bad homberg. it is so tragic that the russians eliminated so many prussians and forced them to leave, or murdered them after world war 2. where was president roosevelts head? a stupid president to say the least since the nazi movement came out of bavaria. so hard to trace the bohm line, as there is so many of them, and records so few. thanks again. bill

I came across some more towns called Homberg, so perhaps, one of them is the one your looking for:
1.) Homberg/Ohm, which is in Hassia (Hessen), near Marburg and Gie�en.
2.) Homberg/Efze, which is also in Hassia (Hessen), near Kassel.
