It does indicate a tendency toward the Pfalz and Saarland so
that is a good place to start. I am guessing that they
probably came from somewhere along the Rhein and that was
their route out when they emigrated to America. It is also
possible I guess that they did not necessarily come from
anywhere that is within the current boundaries of Germany
but could have come from any German speaking region.
