Kartenberg

Hello Wilfried
A short answer to your question - I don't know for a fact that someone would list Calenberg as their birthplace in 1880. I do know that my mother was born in Linden(1910), indicated so in the Familien Stammbuch, later it became Hannover-Linden(1935), after that it became simply Hannover. I have looked quickly in some books and maps, but most have a 1920 vintage or later. As most of the books do not have an index, I'll have to look by subject and time period.
Wether the answer comes in the history of Calenberg-Gttingen or Brauschweig-Calenberg, or Hannover, I don't know, and may not wish to take the time.
The data given Kartenberg (which I suggested to be Calenberg, as Kartenberg apparently does not exist), Hannover about 1880, family name Hinsch from the 1942 city directory, 3 of them widows when most people lived in the same appartment for decades, it would be something to look at, especially when one is standing in front of a big wall. As I also suggested other name variations, extracted from the directory. I would look at the city directories for Hannover from the 1890's and early 1900s which are available on film from LDS. If you don't find anything, you will have satisfied yourself that this is not the place. If you hit paydirt, yuo would have to expand on the information.
