I was born Mary Kanitz here in the state of
Wisconsin, US. My father's father, Emil Carl, and his brother, Frank
Theodore, immigrated from Callies or Kallies, Germany in 1881. This town
is now named Kalisz Pomorski and is in Poland- east of Stettin
and Stargard. Emil Carl was born 17Sep1861 and his brother born
07Oct1858.
Their parents were Emil Carl Kanitz and his wife Augusta Handke or
Naudke.
I have been there and am convinced that there are no records in the
area.
But I was fortunate to have found a descendant of
a sister Bertha Marie Louise Kanits born 17 Aug1860. She does
notremember anything of her grandparents family.
My grandfather's obituary in 1982 said he had 3
brothers and 4 sisters still living in Germany which would now be
Poland.I think there must be more descendants from this family. It would
be wonderful tofind more cousins. They could be anywhere as people
emmigrated everywhere in those days.

Have you tried familysearch.org, and the library card catalog online? There
are many civil records listed for Kalisz. Also search on the name as there
are many Emils and other Kanitz. Also try a "Kanitz" search on Google.com.
