I am still searching for information concerning my g-grandfather and
to that end I am in the process in reveiwing all the data I have
about him. The only thing I have that ties him to the Hanover area is
a statement by him that says he was born in Hildeshein in the Kingdom
of Hanover. The exact year of his birth is unknown. The ship manifest
and his emmigration card says he was 33 years old in 1859 and his
death certificate dated 1878 says he was 53 at the time he died. That
would put his birth year about 1826-27.
A few years go I paid a professional researcher to see if his birth
and/or baptismal records could be found. Unfortunately the results
were negative for the city of Hildesheim. I reviewed this report and
found 2 entries that are confusing. Both of these reports come from
the baptismal records of .St. Andreas church. I was informed that St.
Andreas is where illegitmate births are recorded. Here are the
entries, note the difference:
Friedrike Wilhelmine Burgdorf, born 09.02.1822, bapt 17.02.1822.
Illegitimate daughter of Dorothee Burgdorf from Kemm Baptisms 1822 p
21
Friedrick Wilhelm Burgdorf born 09.02.1822, bapt 17.02.1822, mother
Dorothee Burgdorf from Semmen, illegitimate maternity hospital,
godmother: midwife Bernitz.
A son, a daughter, born the same day to same mother, 2 entries (?),
same name but diffrerent spellings, male and female. Could these
possibly be twins? Thus the double entry and different spellings.
Friedrick could have at some point changed his name to Julius.
Before I dismiss this as an erronious entry I owe it to myself to
try to get an explanation. Can anyone offer a plausible explanation?
Or if a resident of the area can you check the St. Andreas records,
Baptisms, 1822 p21
Many thanks, Max
