Johann Heinrich Jacobs from Hannover ca 1850

Hello to all on the Hannover List.

I am looking for help to find information on my Great-Grandfather,
"Johann Heinrich Jacobs"

My first source of information about him is the 1850 Census.

Johann Heinrich Jacobs age 21, listed as from Hannover, and his 16
year old brother Gerhardt Heinrich Jacobs.

They were in Okawville Illnois, "Washington County"

I have no information before the above, any help (In German or
English) would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Don,

     In the Illinois marriage index, there is a marriage between John H.
Jacobs married to Sophia Caeseker 2/2/1853 in Washington County. If that is
your relative, you can order the record and it may give his place of birth
and parents' names. You can look at that site:

http://www.sos.state.il.us/GenealogyMWeb/marrsrch.html
    Someone I know got the birth and parents' names from that Illinois site.
It will depend on what was on that original record.

     If that doesn't give you the birthplace and parents, you should also
find out about the church(s) in that town (there are 3, but you'd have to
find out which was in existence in 1853 and contact them to find birth
certificates for their children as well. Those items often give birthplace.

     Have you searched the Washington County Ill website?

I have the Ebenezer Lutheran Church Records, and Johann was listed as a
Widower when he married Diena Temme in 1857.

I will look into the web sites you listed, and hope there is more
information to go on further into Germany.

Gerhardt is the brother, and the information you found is correct, it comes
from the Ebenezer Church Records - but those records never give the place
they came from.
