Silke, Kathy, Dolly, and Peter,
I also have been helping Kathy find her Eggers, she said she got the info from
the LDS for his birth in Schwerin, Mecklenburg.
I looked at the LDS Family Group Record at:
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/AF/family_group_record.asp?familyid=5882151
Husband's Name
James Johannes EGGERS (AFN:PH1Z-6V) Pedigree
Born: 2 Nov 1832 Place: Mecklinburg, Schwerin, Germany
===end of LDS partial record===
Also I found the U.S. census in 1880 showing from Mecklenburg.
So I am fairly certain her Eggers came from the old duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin
since the place is listed as Mecklinburg, Schwerin, in the Family Group Record,
and not from the city of Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
Kathy has not given me anymore evidence to support the Schwerin town as the
birth place.
I am also trying to find a ship, and the Hamburg Departure would show a town for
her, and she says he came over in 1850 or 1851.
So I think if she starts digging around in the parishes at Schwerin (city) she is in for a
wild goose chase, unless she can give more reason to think he came from Schwerin.
The Archives at Schwerin of the Evangelical Churches really need a town also to
do much good, or even start a search, and I believe the fee is 30 Euros per hour?
