Information on Rokahr

Thank you Keith, for your reply. I agree with you that they must have
several spellings on record, and I am happy to say I found a site with
German scripts and translated the name on the certificate I have and it is,
in fact Ernst Rokahr.(in altdeutsche 2) It is not however a birth
certificate; it says Husar Ernst Rokahr with his birth date on it. I looked
up Husar and I believe that is his military service. So I am still looking
for an Ernst Rokahr (born March 12, 1866) and a Karl Rokahr (his father)
from Hannover.

Thanks again Keith, I will keep a more open mind when searching and not rule
out the other spellings... especially for Karl.

Best regards,
Anne

Hi Anne Rokahr-Ashline,

can confirm, that this name ROKAHR is spread in a very high concentration in and around Hannover, another centre should be by the town Springe. Today there are about 180 telefone-entries ROKAHR. The Question is, which archives did you already check in and around Hannover. First trial should the Kirchenbuchamt Hannover. As you have got already a birth date, that should not be to expensive. Perhaps someone can do a look-up in the published military church-book of Hannover. They should be mentioned there, if the father also has been inside the military hierachy. Otherwise the:

Kirchenbuchamt Hannover, Hildesheimerstr. 165/175, 30173 Hannover, Tel. 0511 -9878 555

should be able to help forward.

Best wishes

Hans Peter Albers, Bienenbüttel.

P.S.: für die deutschen Listenleser: kann jemand im Militärkirchenbuch für Hannover die eventuell vorhanden Einträge für ROKAHR auf die Liste geben ? Habe selbst nur Band 1 A -F.

Hello and thank you for all of the information you have given me! I believe it will help me in knowing what areas to look. I have looked in a few archives of churches in the Hannover area, just by luck on the internet, and have hit with the surname Rokahr in several. I don't know if I have the right families yet, but I am finding the name! I am very anxious to try the Kirchenbuchamt Hannover, and I never thought of searching for a military church-book for Hannover. So, again, thank you for the information. I was talking to my brother tonight, telling him what I have been finding out (he lives 3 hours away from me and is computer illiterate) and he is excited and amazed at what I am finding.

Take care,
Anne Rokahr-Ashline
