Thank you to Max and all the rest of you for your kind responses to my
inquiry. To answer Max's question . . no I have not checked the Hamburg
Emigration list but I will. It sounds to me like it was very possible my Degener
family and others from the same village in Hannover who settled in Illinois in
the 1840's may have come by this same route . . NYC to NO and then up river.
