Could I ask you to look up Joachim Gottschalk, Martin Gottschalk or any other
Gottschalks
in the Mecklenburg census? We also have Wulfs in the family. I believe the
Gottschalks
originated in an area northwest of Berlin which is now Brandenburg. They all
emmigrated
to a German area outside Warsaw about 1820.

I would appreciate it if it's not too much trouble. Otherwise, is the census
available on
microfilm from the FHL?

Hi Carol,

As suspected, there are heaps of Gottschalks in the Mecklenburg 1819 census surname index. Mecklenburg is not part of Brandenburg, so it probably is not worth pursuing this line of research just yet. Have you had a look at the German settlements near Warsaw?
