Well I sent off my brief letter today. In German. Hopefully they will
understand that I don't speak German any better than I'd expect them to speak
English and go a little easy on my grammar. I don't know how to say
great-great-great-grandfather in German, I hope they can figure it out from what I
wrote, which I think translated into large-large-large grandfather! I basically
just used the fill in the blank form I got from the very helpful lister here.
I also included a scan of the page that Ms. Pauling sent me and I
highlighted the name of the common ancestor. Also included a mini-tree that started at
me and worked back to that ancestors name. Also included pics of me, my
father, my grandfather, and my great grandfather. And I wasn't sure how to send
postage so they could write back, so I went to the post office and purchased
international postage certificates, good in any country supposedly, and they
had instructions on the back in German, so I hope they work. Now everyone
cross your fingers that they write me back!
Hi Andilea,
I wish you all the best of Luck and hope that your new found German relatives do contact you as I am sure they will be as excited as you are at the prospect of meeting either online or in person. How wonderful the internet is and how thrilled our ancestors would be to know that we are all finding each other again today.
