Greetings,
I'm looking for information on the family of August Holzhaus, born 7 July
1836 in or near Vechta. His parents were Bernhard Holzhaus and Bernardina
Sandmann. The family was Catholic. In 1839 they immigrated to America and
settled in or around Cincinnati Ohio. August also had a sister, name
unknown. His parents died sometime before 1865, presumably in Ohio.
This information comes from August's military pension records. During the
Civil War (1861-1865) he served with the 1st Ohio Infantry and then the
47th U.S. Infantry.
I have been unsuccessful in finding the parents in the U.S. census or other
civil records. I am starting to wonder if this is the correct spelling for
this family. In 2007 someone else made a request regarding this family and
the spelling of the names was also questioned:
