Hoffmann in Norden

Hi Art, thank you for your reply. I will look at Nartum and Gyhum, although elderly family members explicitly told me many years ago that it was the Norden on the North Sea where Christiane Dorothea HOFFMANN was born August 14, 1821, and they had accurate information on all the rest of my family lines. Of interest, they also told me the following;

"My grandmother came from a high class family, but I don't know if they were rich. I'd say well off. She had a good education and had many nice things among her belongings when she came to America. She came with a large trunk which was filled with expensive linens and silver."

I don't know if that part is true. I've looked at the passenger list and she apparently came alone or with a girlfriend. She met her future husband on the ship (she was listed right below his and his family's names.)

Anyway, I'm quite sure Norden on the North Sea is still the place I need to get information from. (sigh... I've been at this for over 40 years now!) Other than searching the available church microfilms for Norden which I did at the Mormon library years ago, I don't know where else to find Norden records.

Thank you sooo much, though, for trying to help. I really do appreciate it and will give Nartum/Gyhum a shot.

Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,

as you write that your Christiane Dorothea Hofmann * 14.8.1821 came from
a high class family. I think she belonged to a family in Norden where
the father was apothecaries (Apotheker) or pharmacist. Then the
assumption regarding the family would be correct. My only problem is,
that I cannot find her listed with the other children.

The dates to this family can be found in my dates in GEDBAS:

I shall put a query in a mailing list of East Frisia to find out if this
is the right family. As soon as I hear more I shall contact you directly.

Greetings - Uschi (Boes)
